Tonga prepares to make their debut in the AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships

Signifying the increased vitality of boxing all over the world, athletes from Ghana, Guyana, Jordan, Netherlands and Tonga will become the first representatives from their respective nations to compete in the AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships, which are scheduled to begin on 2 September in St. Petersburg, Russia
Tonga has never competed in any AIBA youth or junior events before, which makes their participation in St. Petersburg a truly historic occasion for boxing.
Among their three registered boxers is 16-year-old Molitoni Wolfgramm, who is a member of one of Tonga’s most famous fighting families.
His uncle is legendary Super Heavyweight (+91 kg) star Paea Wolfgramm, who became the only Tongan athlete from any sport to win an Olympic medal when he won silver at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games.
His nephew trains in Australia and in New Zealand, but is incredibly proud to represent Tonga in the AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships.
“I will be trying to follow my uncle’s career. I started boxing at the age of 9 when I moved to Australia, but currently I live and train in Auckland, New Zealand with coaches Lolo Heimuli and Josiah Mataele who selected me for the AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships. I can’t wait for the start of the Championships, and to show my skills in Russia. It is a privilege that AIBA found me, and are interested about my boxing career,” said Molitoni Wolfgramm.
