AIBA President thoughts on Hamburg 2017

August 3rd, 2017 / Hamburg 2017, IBA

22 days ahead of the Men’s World Boxing Championships, AIBA President Ching-Kuo Wu, shows his feelings and thoughts about the major boxing competition of the year.

How are the preparations for the event going?
The World Championships are the AIBA major competition and our staff have been working very close with the Local Organizing Committee for more than six months to ensure the highest standards for this event.

It is true that the current institutional situation can have an impact in the competition, and the recent proceedings initiated by some elected members have definitely not put the boxers first. But I’m confident that with the hard work done by the AIBA staff and local organizers we will see one of the best World Championships ever.

The traditional boxing city of Hamburg will see the best 280 boxers in the World competing across 9 days of boxing action. This is the DNA of the AIBA family, to develop and provide the best opportunities for our athletes. Sports will always come first and Hamburg will be a great celebration of the noble art.

What kind of involvement have the sponsors of the event?
We are delighted to partner with prestigious global brands like Borgward and Adidas in Hamburg 2017. As I already said before, the World Championships are special for us and having these sponsors on board reaffirm our intention of escalate the level and the quality of our major competition.

Our operational team has been working closely with all the brands to ensure a good cooperation, and I’m confident that both parties will be very please after the event opening new doors for our marketing position in the next 4 years’ cycle.

What the fans can expect from the AIBA 2017 World Boxing Championships?
