AIBA Interim President meets with European Boxing Leaders

At the recent European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) Executive Committee meeting, held onsite at the AIBA Youth World Championships, AIBA Interim President Gafur Rahimov met with the European boxing leadership to provide an update on the progress the organization has made and is continuing to make.

During his address, Mr. Rahimov provided insights from his recent trip at the Asian Games and the good discussions held there with Olympic stakeholders. He further updated the European leaders on the feedback received from the IOC Executive Board, which included acknowledgement of progress achieved by AIBA in several areas. This includes the work with the ASOIF Governance Task Force, the launch of the AIBA New Foundation Plan, the implementation of independent monitoring of the boxing competitions at the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018, the transition to the International Testing Agency (ITA) and improved finances.

In addition Mr. Rahimov thanked the EUBC EC members for their contributions saying “I have always believed that national federations are the heart of AIBA and as leaders of the European nations, the EUBC EC members are a vital part of our continued success. I want to thank the EUBC and our European members for their contributions over the years in setting high standards for the development of Boxing.”

Mr. Franco Falcinelli, President of the EUBC and AIBA Executive Vice-President said, “On behalf of AIBA’s European nations, we would like to thank Mr. Rahimov for all the hard work he has put into moving our sport forward. We want to thank the AIBA Interim President for his continued leadership and look forward to further positive advances for boxing.”

Closing out the meeting, the EUBC EC members positively reacted to the Interim President’s progress report by expressing their appreciation of the efforts made by Mr. Rahimov since taking over the helm of the AIBA Presidency. They positively expressed their support for his current and future activities, stating “The progress of reforms in AIBA to date has been significant. We have achieved a lot in such a short period of time, this is greatly due to the leadership and the initiatives by Mr. Rahimov. We look forward to the continued development and progress of boxing, as well as hearing more about Mr. Rahimov’s future plans to further reform AIBA.”
