The International Boxing Association is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Danilo Ivanović, following an announcement from his family today. One of the most respected boxing referees of his generation, Ivanović passed away in Belgrade at the age of 93.
Ivanović dedicated much of his life to boxing and earned recognition as an outstanding official at national, European and international levels. During his career, he refereed more than 1,500 bouts, including more than 400 at international level and served as referee at four Olympic Games.
He began his refereeing journey at a young age and, by the age of 29, had become the youngest international boxing referee in Europe. Over the course of his career, Ivanović officiated at major global and continental competitions, including the Olympic Games, World Championships and European Championships.
His contribution to boxing went far beyond the ring. Ivanović was a member of AIBA from 1975 to 1990 and served as Chairman of the AIBA Referees Committee from 1978 to 1982. He was also one of the founders of the EABA and held senior positions within the European boxing community, including serving as a member of the EABA Executive Committee and as EABA Vice-President.
Throughout his long career, Ivanović helped shape the standards of refereeing and officiating in international boxing. His professionalism, dedication and service to the sport left a lasting mark on generations of officials, athletes and boxing administrators.
IBA extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Danilo Ivanović, as well as to the Serbian and global boxing communities.
