IBA unveils 2026 International Boxing Day theme: “Honouring Our Champions, Inspiring Our Future”

August 17th, 2026 / International Boxing Day

Ahead of worldwide celebrations on 27 August, the global boxing community is gearing up for a campaign dedicated to celebrating the heroes, mentors, and emerging talents who define the sport.

This year’s celebration will recognise not only the achievements of champions inside the ring, but also the contribution of athletes, coaches, referees and judges, medical personnel, volunteers, administrators, National Federations and supporters who help boxing develop around the world.

The IBA is inviting its National Federations to join the celebrations by sharing stories that demonstrate the impact of boxing in their countries and communities in the days leading up to 27 August guided by the message “Honouring Our Champions, Inspiring Our Future”.

Federations are encouraged to produce short video reels and digital stories featuring the achievements of boxers past and present, collaboration between athletes, coaches, clubs, schools and federations, and examples of how boxing inspires young people and creates new opportunities.

The campaign will also highlight those working behind the scenes and the values that unite the global Boxing Family, including respect, courage, inclusion, friendship and excellence.

“International Boxing Day is far more than a celebration of sport. It is a celebration of people. It is an opportunity to showcase the strength of our community, the resilience of our athletes, and the positive impact boxing delivers in every corner of the world,” IBA Secretary General and CEO Chris Roberts OBE said.

“We want to see the stories of the people who make boxing special in every country – from our champions and young athletes to coaches, officials and volunteers. By sharing these stories, we can honour those who have shaped our sport while inspiring the generations who will take it forward.”

The IBA looks forward to bringing together stories from across its National Federations, which are welcome to begin publishing their International Boxing Day content immediately, building towards the worldwide celebration on 27 August. Athletes, coaches, officials, clubs and supporters are also encouraged to participate and share their own stories.

Content published on social media should tag @iba_official, mention International Boxing Day on 27 August and include this year’s theme, “Honouring Our Champions, Inspiring Our Future”. Stories, photos and video materials can also be submitted directly to the IBA via email at press@iba.sport.

International Boxing Day provides an opportunity for the global Boxing Family to celebrate the people and communities behind the sport, reflect on their achievements and showcase how boxing continues to make a positive impact around the world.
