What’s coming in 2018? 5 reasons not to miss a single punch this year

January 16th, 2018 / IBA

After a busy 2017, where 10 new Men’s World Champions and 10 Youth Women’s World Champions were crowned in Hamburg and Guwahati, what can we expect to come in the next 365 days?

  • The moment of the Youth generation is now!

Continental, World and Olympic titles will be at stake this year for the Youth men’s and women’s boxers. 2018 will be the perfect time to identify the potential stars who will be shining at Tokyo 2020.

April and May will define the Continental champions as well as the qualified boxers who will be fighting for the gold medal in the AIBA Youth Men’s & Women’s World Championships in August.

The closing party of this busy 2018 for our Youth boxers will take place in Buenos Aires in October with the Youth Olympic Games. Nothing better than leaving the most prestigious tournament to the end!

  • Ten gold medals are waiting for the new Women’s World Champions

The Indian city of New Delhi will host the tenth edition of the AIBA Women’s World Championships in November.

Old acquaintances, such as the incombustible AIBA legend Mary Kom, Colombia’s Ingrit Valencia or Russia’s Anastasiia Beliakova, will encounter a new generation of young hopes in an event that promises to be one of the most disputed World Championships ever.

  • New opportunities to develop your career in boxing

AIBA will keep the focus on education across 2018 with an extensive offer of development courses around the world.

The development and training of AIBA’s global network of officials is a priority of the Tokyo 2020 cycle, not just for the R&J community but coaches, technical and National Federation staff as a whole.

  • Regional Games to set the pace of the men’s Elite boxers

In a year without any worldwide competition at the men’s Elite level, the regional multisport games will give a good taste and preparation towards the next Olympics and World Championships for our men’s stars.

With the Commonwealth Games, South American Games, Mediterranean Games, Central American & Caribbean Games and Asian Games, the 2018 boxing action is fully guaranteed.
