Seasons Greetings from President Kremlev and IBA family

December 29th, 2021 / IBA

Throughout 2021 IBA has made significant progress towards the joint goal of restoring boxing integrity and ensuring a prosperous future for the sport and athletes. IBA has celebrated its 75th anniversary, and the year became one of the most important in the history of boxing.

IBA President Umar Kremlev said: “Together, we have made huge progress, fueled by our commitment to transparency and stability. IBA has been able to clear its debts, and secured a global financial sponsorship agreement, laying down a foundation of financial stability, as well as allowing us to award significant prize money to our athletes. We held a number of memorable and high level tournaments including the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Kielce and the AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championships in Belgrade.”

“In 2021, IBA has appointed and worked closely with a number of industry-leading external experts, to investigate our past and ensure that those guilty of wrongdoing are identified and punished and to deliver valuable recommendations on governance reform, sporting and financial integrity moving forward. We ended the year with a new face and on track for reinstatement.”

The Extraordinary Congress held on December 12 became a reflection of IBA being ready for further positive change. There has been a shift in IBA’s culture, a shift towards the benefit of the organisation, its athletes and community, and away from personal agendas and gain.

“I thank the IBA team, National Federations, boxers, coaches and the whole boxing family for their commitment over the past 12 months and for everything that they have done for our sport and its development. We have fought a fair fight, and it has yielded results. There is so much more to do, but I am confident we will succeed together,” President Kremlev added.

On behalf of the IBA team, we would like to wish you and your loved ones a warm Holiday Season and a Happy New Year!
