Italy’s two-time AIBA World Boxing Champion Clemente Russo makes a return to AOB action this month at the Tammer Tournament in Tampere, Finland, between 19-22 November. The 33 year-old heavyweight has already qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games following his impressive showing in AIBA Pro Boxing competitions this year.

Another Rio 2016 Olympian set to make a big impact in Finland will be Germany’s Erik Pfeifer. The two-time AIBA World Boxing Championship bronze medallist won the APB super heavyweight title in January, and will be the favourite for the Tammer title.

Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea and Sri Lanka are among the nations sending delegations from the Asian continent, while Algeria will represent the African Boxing Confederation in Tampere, the host city of the AIBA World Boxing Championships back in 1993.

England’s AIBA World Boxing Championship bronze medalist Anthony Fowler will also be returning to the tournament, where his biggest challenge at middleweight looks likely to come from French WSB boxer Christian Mbilli Assomo.

“I am really looking forward to the Tammer Tournament. It is a great place to box and where I won the gold medal at the welterweight class in 2011. The Baku 2015 European Games was disappointing for me but I have been training very hard will be ready for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games,” said Fowler, who has been training 22 hours a week to reach peak physical shape.

Germany’s WSB boxer Hamza Touba, Korea’s AIBA World Boxing Championship quarter-finalist Kim In Kyu, Scotland’s Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Reece McFadden and Hungary’s EUBC European Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist Nandor Csoka will be among those heading up a strong flyweight competition when the action gets underway in Tampere.
