RTÉ Sport has confirmed that it has added three major boxing championships to an already packed year of sport on RTÉ by securing the rights across all platforms to three major AIBA boxing tournaments in 2015 and 2016: the semi-finals and finals of 2015 EUBC European Boxing Confederation Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria on 14th & 15th August; the 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships in Qatar in October; the 2016 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Kazakhstan in February 2016.

The rights secured by RTÉ include live and deferred access to all bouts involving Irish competitors, live and catch-up rights (21 Days) to all available bouts on the RTE Player.

“The European Boxing Confederation Championships, AIBA World Boxing Championships Doha 2015 and AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships are flagship boxing events and will undoubtedly attract a large number of TV audiences. The competitions will see the best boxers from Europe and all over the world compete for the ultimate boxing glory and also for the change to qualify to Rio 2016 Olympic Games. I am delighted that thanks to the TV deal with RTE thousands of viewers in Ireland will enjoy the highest quality boxing action on offer and will be able to support their national boxing stars”, said AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu.

The EUBC European’s 2015 will be broadcast on RTÉ 2 on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th August (full schedule to be advised), while AIBA World Boxing Championships 2015 will be available on RTÉ 2 and the RTÉ Player, with full live and highlights schedules to be announced at a later date. Details regarding full live and highlights schedules for the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships will also be announced at a later date.

Ryle Nugent, Group Head of Sport, RTÉ said We are delighted to confirm that RTÉ has secured these boxing rights as part of what is an already substantial schedule of major Irish and international sports events for 2016. Boxing is a major sport in Ireland and our continued success at European and World level continues to interest Irish audiences. These boxing championships will prove to be of particular interest as we build towards the Rio Olympics and are a key part of a great sports offering on RTE, etc. Next year Irish audiences can look forward to EURO 2016 alongside the GAA Championships, the Olympic Games in Rio, the 6 Nations and all of Ireland’s competitive qualifiers for both Euro 2016 and the World Cup in 2018 and much more – all free-to-air on RTÉ across all platforms.”
