Natalya Tsoy was awarded the honour of Best R&J of the Tournament at the closing ceremony of the 2016 Women’s World Championships on Friday 27 May in Astana, Kazakhstan. AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu presented Mrs Tsoy with the prize as a thrilling eight days of competition came to a close.

The level of officiating at the tournament was once again a source of pride for AIBA, for whom the strong and reliable team of referees and judges it has developed over the years is an essential element. Mrs Tsoy was also an Ambassador for the Women’s World Championships, and as a Kazakh woman in the world of boxing, she was honoured to receive the prize infront of her fellow countryfolk.

“This is the first time Kazakhstan has hosted a women’s boxing competition at this level and we can be very proud of what we have achieved in Astana. This will be another big step forward for the development of women’s sport in our country, and I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to be an ambassador for such a prestigious tournament here in my home country,” said Mrs Tsoy.

Natalya Tsoy has a masters degree in boxing and took up refereeing in 2009. In 2014, the former boxer became one of AIBA’s three-star R&Js, officiating at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in China. After an excellent performance throughout the 2016 World Championships, Mrs Tsoy oversaw the light heavyweight final between Australia’s Kaye Scott and China’s victorious Xiaoli Yang, handling an intense bout in her usual calm, considered and professional way.
