IBA President Umar Kremlev Calls For Sensational Showdown Between UFC Champion Petr Yan And Irish Superstar Conor McGregor
International Boxing Association (IBA) President Umar Kremlev has called on newly-crowned UFC Bantamweight Petr Yan and Irish megastar Conor McGregor to meet in a blockbuster showdown under the IBA banner, following Yan’s stunning decision win over Merab Dvalishvili this past weekend.
Kremlev, who is currently presiding over the record-breaking IBA 2025 Men’s World Boxing Championships in Dubai – which boasts a mouth-watering $8.32m prize-pool for athletes – made the stunning offer on his official Instagram page for a meeting between the two MMA mega-stars, which a money-spinning bout mooted to take place in 2026.
“Let’s make the best event of 2026,” said President Kremlev, to his 4.3million strong Instagram audience.
“The IBA is ready to organize this event – all we need is your agreement. Waiting for your confirmation, Petr Yan!”
The power move comes after both Yan and McGregor faced off in a viral clash at an IBA Champions Night event on December 9, 2023 in Dubai, UAE.
Now, with Yan having reclaimed championship gold and McGregor, one of the world’s most high-profile sporting stars, teasing his return to combat sports in 2026, Kremlev has thrown down the gauntlet for what would undoubtedly be one of the biggest sporting events in recent history.
Alongside the glittering IBA 2025 Men’s World Boxing Championships finals, slated for Saturday December 13 in the opulent city of Dubai, Kremlev’s IBA Pro outfit will also host the WBA World Heavyweight Title clash between Bulgaria’s Kubrat Pulev and Russia’s Murat Gassiev on Friday December 12 – with both events set to take place at iconic Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium.
A mouthwatering clash between Yan and McGregor would be another signal of intent from the International Boxing Association, with President Kremlev doubling down on his mandate to make the biggest combat sports events across the globe.
