IBA marks the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace
On 6 April, the International Boxing Association (IBA) proudly joins the global sporting community in celebrating the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace established by the United Nations. This day reflects the profound power of sport to unite people, inspire communities, and drive meaningful global change.
At IBA, we believe sport is far more than a quest for medals. It is a vital force for development, building healthier and more resilient societies. It is a tool for inclusion, supporting equality and empowering individuals of all backgrounds. Most importantly, it is a vehicle for peace, giving hope to communities and shaping a more connected future. The impact of sport reaches far beyond the field of play; it is a catalyst for a more inclusive and peaceful world.
IBA Secretary General and CEO Chris Roberts OBE said:
“Boxing is a unique and valued activity that touches all four corners of the globe, providing opportunities for individuals in the most deprived areas to pursue their ambitions, goals, and dreams.
“We are committed to creating a system where athletes are protected, heard, and empowered, regardless of where they come from, ensuring that sport remains a sovereign and sustainable ecosystem that thrives on its own terms of unity and respect.”
On this important day, IBA extends its warmest congratulations to our athletes, coaches, National Federations, and officials. We honour everyone who works tirelessly every day to strengthen the integrity of sport and uphold its core values. Thank you for your unwavering dedication, your passion, and your contribution to a world where sport continues to build bridges and break down barriers.
Happy International Day of Sport for Development and Peace!
