The Ethiopian National Elite Boxing Championships are making history in Ethiopia as it hosts its first International Boxing Association (IBA) Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Course. The 1-Star R&J training, has been managed by Rajiv Godavarisingh Rajcoomar, one of the IBA’s lead Instructors from Mauritius, in the capital city of Addis Ababa.

Seventeen R&Js have gathered for this innovative course, eager to learn and acquire the skills required to officiate at the international level. Rajcoomar, who holds the position of AFBC R&J Committee Chair and IBA R&J Committee Member, brings extensive expertise in the sport to this certification course.

“I am impressed by the determination of all the 17 candidates who want to move to another level and get a significant step up in their R&J career. My message is very simple as this course will be an enormous turning point for further development of boxing in Ethiopia and Africa as a whole.” said Rajcoomar.

IBA is determined to keep providing lifelong learning opportunities for AFBC and investing in these learning initiatives for our personnel coming from the African continent. Fostering development and providing quality education opportunities for the officials from Africa remains a high priority for our organization and will always play a crucial role for moving our sport forward.

Yohannes Birhane, Ethiopian Boxing Federation Technical Expert, expressed his gratitude to the IBA “I would like to express my great appreciation to the IBA team on behalf of the Ethiopian Boxing Federation for providing us with this valuable opportunity to host an IBA Course for the first time in our national boxing history. We also would like to express our gratitude to the course instructor, Mr. Rajiv Godavarisingh Rajcoomar for his professionalism. The success of this course is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the IBA Development team, IBA Instructors and course participants.”

IBA extends its gratitude to the African personnel for their mutual assistance during the implementation of the courses in this region.
