Dusmatov vs Carmona title fight to crown IBA Champions’ Night in Tashkent

April 14th, 2024 / IBA Champions Night

The IBA World Flyweight Championship between Uzbek star Hasanboy “Professor” Dusmatov and renowned Spanish boxer Samuel “El Rey” Carmona will be the highlight of the IBA Champions’ Night in Tashkent. This and seven more exciting fights kick off at Humo Arena at 17:00 local time today, 14 April 2024.

On Saturday, IBA President Umar Kremlev supervised the weigh-in of the contenders and promised to gift an amazing G-Wagen to a boxer of the main event, who scores a KO victory before the fifth round.

The two headliners have had an extensive exchange on social media before the fight tonight and met for a face-to-face to present their contest to the Tashkent public. The crowd roared as World and Olympic champion Dusmatov entered the stage, however, Carmona received it well and stated that although he respects the rival, he came to Tashkent for a victory. Humo Arena promises to be full tonight.

The co-main event weigh-in was truly spectacular. A famous super heavyweight boxer from the USA Michael “Bounty” Hunter came to the scales in the national Uzbek outfit. At the scales, he tore his t-shirt off that listed all of the Russian boxers who he has managed to defeat during his career, including Alexander Ustinov and Sergey Kuzmin, as well as Alexander Povetkin – although this particular contest was a draw. His next Russian rival’s name Artem Suslenkov, was also on the list, but not crossed out; Hunter obviously hopes it would be the case after the bout. Suslenkov in turn listed on his t-shirt those he wants to defeat next: Hunter, Bakole, Joshua, Usyk. At the very moment of a stare down, he tore his t-shirt clean off.

The undercard of the night features prominent Uzbek boxers against strong rivals from around the globe.

Defending IBA World champion from Uzbekistan Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev featured earlier at IBA Champions’ Night in Phuket, embraces his first-ever 8-round contest against Fatih Keles from Türkiye.

In another 8-round contest, young Uzbek prospect, Jakhongir Zokirov, who was also a youth World champion and has already fought professionally once, faces off against Agron Smakici from Croatia, a professional boxer with a 20-2 record.

Mujibillo Tursunov from Uzbekistan has already had his debut in professional boxing and scored four victories so far. This time he will be challenged by Juma Choki Ramadhani in the 63.5kg division, who is a southpaw from Tanzania with an 8-0-1 record.

In a 60kg, six-round ranking fight, IBA World Championships 2015 bronze medallist Elnur Abduraimov from Uzbekistan meets Carlos Ornelas (28-4) from Mexico.

IBA World Championships 2017 silver medallist Ikboljon Kholdorov will be challenged by Sagadat Rakhmankul (8-5) from Kazakhstan at 71kg.

Bronze medallist at the IBA World Championships, Uzbek boxer Alokhon Abdullaev (1-0-1) goes into the ring against Otgonjargal Jargal from Mongolia (1-0) in the 75kg division.

IBA welcomes all boxing fans at Humo Arena today at 17:00 with live stream available at night.iba.sport website. A truly superb night of boxing unmatched by any other this weekend.
