October 9th, 2015 / All

Friday heralds in another 40 bouts of unmissable AIBA World Championship boxing that will see the winners of the flyweight (52kg), lightweight (60kg), welterweight (69kg), light heavyweight (81kg) and super heavyweight (+91kg) progress to Saturday’s quarter finals.

Kazakhstan’s defending AIBA welterweight World Champion – and boxer of the year for the last two years – Daniyar Yeleussinov finally steps into the Doha ring on the fourth day of competition. However, his opponent, Belarus’ EUBC European Confederation Boxing Championships silver medallist Pavel Kastramin, is likely to provide a thorough test of his title-defending credentials.

Another welterweight medal contender, Venezuela’s 2015 PanAmerican Games champion Gabriel Maestre, takes on Lithuania’s EUBC European Champion Eimantas Stanionis in a hotly anticipated WSB vs. APB battle.

Ireland’s two-time EUBC European Champion APB boxer Joseph Ward can expect a tough match against Ukraine’s AIBA Youth World Champion Oleksandr Khyzhniak at the light heavyweight class, while in the pick of the super heavyweight bouts, Cuba’s two-time PanAmerican Games winner Leinier Pero will have his work cut out against Uzbekistan’s promising Bakhodir Jalolov. The young contender packs an extra 15cm in reach over his Cuban opponent, who will need to use all his experience to ensure safe passage to the next round.
