Azerbaijan’s star Yana Alekseevna is ready to win gold in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships

Azerbaijan’s best woman boxer Yana Alekseevna has already qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in the AIBA European Olympic Qualification Event in Samsun but she will be competing in the upcoming 9th edition of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan where she will be focusing to her first title.

Rio de Janeiro will be her first Olympic Games but first of all Azerbaijan’s new sensation will be there also in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan where she can prepares to the August event and she can test herself once again with the top female boxers of the globe.

Ireland’s five-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Katie Taylor defeated her in the last edition of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Jeju and also in the Baku 2015 European Games but Alekseevna did revenge in the best time, in the semi-final of the AIBA European Olympic Qualification Event which bout decided the Olympic spot.

Their special rivalry will be one of the highlight of the forthcoming AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Astana where the Lightweight class (60 kg) could be the most difficult one in the competition.

Yana, congratulations to your Olympic quota once again. What does it mean for you?

The Olympic quota is the hard work of my life. This is not only my success as this is my father’s work also who my coach is and all people who supported me from the beginning to achieve great results. My quota is the first step for the medal in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

What is your target in the upcoming AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan?

The AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships will be my next step in the road to the Olympic Games, a great test for me. My dream is to raise Azerbaijan’s flag in the upcoming AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and also in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

What is your opinion about the host country Kazakhstan and their strength in boxing?

Boxing is the number one sport in Kazakhstan, they have got long and successful history, that is why I respect them and I have got many friends in the country.

Which was your career highlight in your opinion: your gold medal in the AIBA European Olympic Qualification Event in Samsun or the silver from the 2014 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Jeju?

Every step in the competitions is my road to achieve my goal. My gold medal in Samsun was the result of my Jeju performance and that extra motivation. As I was silver medallist in Jeju I am eager to get the gold medal in the upcoming championships in Astana where I can meet with my main rival Ireland’s Katie Taylor.

Who was your biggest inspiration in boxing?

My biggest inspiration in boxing is my father.

Could you please describe one of your average day from the morning until the night?

My day begins in the early morning; I wake up and go to the training place, then took my son to the school. After I have got my second training with my father, go back to home to arrange all housework and I have got a third training session in the evening.

Who is your favourite boxer?

My favourite boxer is my sister Anna Alimardanova who is also member of the national boxing team of Azerbaijan.

Are you doing any charity work in Azerbaijan?

Yes, I am doing charity job in Azerbaijan and also in Ukraine where due the war people need more help therefore I am doing my best and everything what I can. I like to do good things and help to animals as well to show good example for the next generation.
