June 18th, 2016 / IBA

On Day Two of the AOB World Olympic Qualification Tournament in the Azerbaijan capital Baku, AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu and Azerbaijan Boxing Federation Vice-President Mr Suleyman Mikayilov signed the HeadsUp Charter, underlining Azerbaijan’s strong commitment to the promotion of boxing in all its forms. The ceremony took place in the current competition’s Sarhadchi Venue in the presence of several AIBA Executive Committee members and National Federation delegates.

Earlier on Friday, Azerbaijan Boxing Federation President Mr Kamaladdin Heydarov met with the AIBA President to discuss the long-term development strategy for boxing in the country, and emphasized his unequivocal support for AIBA’s decision, as ratified at the Extraordinary Congress on 1 June, to allow National Federations to register all non AIBA professional boxers for the APB/WSB Olympic Qualification Tournament in Vargas, Venezuela on July 3-8.

In less than a year since its launch, fourteen National Federations and all five confederations have now pledged their commitment to AIBA’s HeadsUp Charter, displaying the clear engagement of all AIBA stakeholders to the 4 pillars at the core of this initiative; Education, Health, Sports and Sustainability.2
