Ahead of the ASBC Continental Championships Finals in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent this weekend, AIBA visited some of the country’s future boxing stars at the National Federation’s training centre as part of the HeadsUp commitment to the sport’s grassroots. AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu and Uzbekistan Boxing Federation Vice President Sherzod Tashmatov presented dozens of youngsters with boxing equipment and clothing, offering words of encouragement to inspire them to continue in the sport.

“HeadsUp and the Uzbekistan Boxing Federation epitomise all that is special about boxing, displaying the values and solidarity that give our sport its universal appeal. I look forward to seeing these young people progressing through the ranks of Uzbek boxing and hope that one day we’ll be seeing them in the finals of this very competition,” said AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu.
