AIBA Compliance Unit up and running

At the recent AIBA EC Meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, Mr Terry Smith was appointed as Chairman of the AIBA Compliance Unit.

The Compliance Unit is responsible for ensuring that all of AIBA’s Statutes, Bylaws, Technical & Competition Rules, Code of Ethics & Discipline are respected by AIBA. In addition, the unit is responsible for insuring that the Continental Confederations, National Federations, AIBA Commissions, Tournament Officials, LOCs, Equipment Suppliers and Service Providers stay in compliance with AIBA rules and standards.

The Compliance Unit will perform systematic audits in all of the above areas and report results to the President, EC Members, National Federations and Business Partners.

The AIBA President will nominate and the AIBA EC will appoint appropriately qualified AIBA Members to assist the Compliance Unit in fulfilling its various tasks.

AIBA Executive Director, Tom Virgets stated: “AIBA is blessed to have a person with the background and experience of Mr Smith to head this most important Unit. Mr Smith has served boxing for over 50 years and his knowledge of all aspects of AIBA are unmatched. I am certain that under his leadership the oversight and effectiveness of AIBA compliance will vastly improve”.
