AFBC Extraordinary Congress declared invalid: Former Board’s authority nullified
June 18th, 2025 / AFBC, Normalisation Committee

The AFBC Normalisation Committee, established by the IBA Board of Directors, has issued a statement addressing the recent invitations received by AFBC National Federations to attend an AFBC Extraordinary Congress allegedly scheduled for 23 August 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The AFBC Normalisation Committee reminds all delegates that, according to Article 18.1(a) of the AFBC Constitution, an Extraordinary Congress can only be convened by the AFBC Board of Directors. The AFBC Normalisation Committee, having been granted full executive authority over the AFBC, has replaced the AFBC President, AFBC Vice President, and AFBC Board. This change was communicated to all National Federations via the AFBC Normalisation Committee Statement dated 31 May 2025.
Given these developments, the former AFBC Board of Directors no longer holds the power to govern any affairs within the AFBC, including the convening of an Extraordinary Congress. Therefore, the purported AFBC Extraordinary Congress on 23 August 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is not recognised and will not take place.
Further updates will be provided by the AFBC Normalisation Committee in due course.
