IBA and ISDE launch a brand new “Sports Governance” Education Course for 2025-2026

August 1st, 2025 / IBA & ISDE

The International Boxing Association (IBA) is pleased to continue its collaboration with the Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economía (ISDE) through unveiling a new educational initiative; the “Sports Governance” course. Designed to cater for athletes, coaches, officials, federation, and confederation staff, as well as other stakeholders in the world of boxing, this course is set to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary for growth and development in the field of governing sports at the international level.

At its core delivery, this educational program seeks to those successful students a unique opportunity to embark on a potential new career path following their boxing journey. IBA confirms its commitment to supporting the wider boxing community with providing this newly-designed educational opportunity that will assist those candidates in their future chosen career paths as sports administrators and managers.

The “Sports Governance” course is structured into three distinct tiers: Tier 1 (basic), Tier 2 (intermediate), and Tier 3 (advanced). Each tier culminates with the issuance of a certificate, and successful completion of those respective tiers, grants students the eligibility to progress on to the next level. Note that both Tier 1 and 2 will be conducted as distance learning (online), whereas Tier 3 will be a hybrid residential learning environment to take place in Madrid at the University. Students are required to complete the modules in sequence dependent on success at each level or stage of the course.

“At IBA, we are committed in providing the highest standards of education to our boxing community, and ongoing Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for our personnel plays a vital role in achieving that stride to excellence. Through this newly joint Sports Governance programme, our main goal is to prepare sports administrators and managers who can support our sport, and indeed other sports at every level – from local clubs to National Federations and Confederations, from amateur to professional competition. With this project, we are also excited to open new career pathways for retired athletes thus helping them during their transition period. I extend my sincere thanks to our partners from ISDE for continuing our collaboration and making this new valuable project possible”, said Anna Utkina, IBA Development Director.

“The collaboration agreement between IBA and ISDE was a landmark achievement within the world of sports and having successfully concluded the first course borne from this relationship, ISDE is delighted to be able to announce the next one. Working with the IBA has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience, and the students have been brilliant to engage with. We cannot wait for the next batch to come through and look forward to meeting them all“, said Dev Kumar Parmar, academic co-director of sports programmes at ISDE, and private practitioner in international sports law (principal director at Parmars).

The course key topics will include: The Olympic movement, History of sport development, International federations, Governance and good governance in sport, Integrity in sport, Reputation risk management and crisis management.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a prestigious IBA and ISDE certificate and gain access to a lifetime alumni discount on any ISDE course.
