The afternoon session of the fourth competition day saw twenty-five impressive preliminary contests in Kielce, Poland today. The best success of the session was achieved by Ecuador’s Genesis Gomez who won her nation’s first-ever woman bout in the history of the AIBA Youth Men’s and Women’s World Boxing Championships.

Boxers in the women’s flyweight (51kg), men’s light heavyweight (81kg) and men’s super heavyweight (+91kg) were in action this afternoon. The winners of the women’s category advanced to the quarter-finals. Those boxers who won their contests in the men’s categories secured their places in the last 16.

India’s Naorem Babyrojisana Chanu stopped her Estonian opponent

India’s Naorem Babyrojisana Chanu was a gold medallist at the 2019 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and she is one of the best flyweight (51kg) talents in the whole globe. She met with Estonia’s best female youth boxer, Diana Gorisnaja who claimed a bronze medal at the 2020 EUBC European Youth Boxing Championships for the first time in her nation.

Chanu opened the first round as a star, she looked confident and her punches were dangerous for Gorisnaja. The referee counted the Estonian in the second round following Chanu’s impressive combinations. Gorisnaja had a brave attempt to catch the Indian and threw more punches but her defense was not enough strong for that. Chanu used up her faults to land strong punches and the referee stopped the contest, therefore, the Indian will box in the next round.

Ecuador won its first-ever women bout in the history of the event

Ecuador’s Genesis Gomez won her first national event in 2017. Pichincha-based boxer also has international experience. The Ecuadorian boxers spent the recent year strengthening their physical conditions and she also developed her power which she demonstrated in the afternoon session of the fourth competition day.

The 18-year-old Ecuadorian, who trains with Vinico Cobo in her boxing gym, faced with a European rival, Latvia’s Viktorija Silke in the women’s flyweight (51kg). Her Latvian opponent was more experienced at the international events but the Baltic boxer could not follow Gomez’s rhythm in the opening minute. The South American immediately pressurized the Latvian boxer and landed a high number of clear jabs. The referee counted the surprised Latvian and finished the contest confirming Gomez’s clear RSC success in the first round. Gomez is Ecuador’s first-ever female boxer who could win a contest in the history of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships.

Russia’s Vasiliy Kaverin was confident in his debuting contest

Boxers in the men’s light heavyweight (81kg) opened their campaigns at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships only on the fourth competition day. Russia’s Vasiliy Kaverin achieved a silver medal at the 2016 EUBC European Schoolboys Boxing Championships and after a few years of hard work he regained his place in the national team. He competed at several international tournaments in the Czech Republic, Belarus and other countries, however, other Russians represented his weight class in the major competitions.

Kaverin made his debut against Armenia’s Hrant Torosyan in Kielce and took the lead quickly after three minutes. The Armenian southpaw was too static in their contest which gave chance to Kaverin to reach him with quick jabs. When Torosyan tried to move ahead and use different style of boxing, the Russian counter-attacked him with perfect timing, therefore, the final verdict was clear unanimous decision in a favor of Karelin.
