AIBA Extraordinary Executive Committee meeting, Istanbul – summary report

AIBA Extraordinary Executive Committee meeting took place in Istanbul, Turkey on August 31.

Several important decisions were made during AIBA EEC meeting in Istanbul.

Dr. Mohamed Moustahsane was asked by EC members not to leave his position and to continue his efforts to stabilize the organisation. He withdrawn his resignation and remained AIBA Interim President.

EC has terminated the mandate of Mr. Thomas Virgets as Executive Director of AIBA. The position will remain vacant until AIBA financial situation becomes better.

EC updated on AIBA/IOC relationship and AIBA collaboration for Olympic qualifiers and Olympic Games.

Three taskforces presented their initial presentations.

The first report of the Finance taskforce was issued and presented. The report confirms AIBA’s current financial challenges. The EC unanimously agreed that bankruptcy is not an option.

Actions have been determined to deal with both the short and long term, this has been done in a team spirited and collaborative manner. The execution will occur in the coming days and weeks, followed by multiple meeting points.

AIBA Statutes assessment will start by involving all NFs by asking them to send recommendations and proposals that will be reviewed by joined commission, including ASOIF and AIBA representatives.

Finance taskforce requested to start meeting with creditors to find a solution for the financial situation.

EC voted unanimously to disband all AIBA Commissions including all Chairman. The new commissions will be elected in coming weeks.

Next AIBA Extraordinary Congress has been scheduled on December 13-14, 2019. Delegates will have to vote the amendments on Statutes, prepared by the joined commission. A taskforce headed by Mr. Volodymir Prodivus will lead the preparations process.

Extraordinary Congress to elect new President is now scheduled on March 2020 in accordance with AIBA Statutes.
