The Asian Boxing Awards 2015 celebrates the continent’s best performers of the last 12 months

The Asian Boxing Confederation has named its fifteen best boxers from a busy 2015 in the ring, with Kazakhstan faring particularly well in the retrospective event. It was to be Uzbekistan’s 19 year-old revelation Bektemir Melikuziev who won Best Male Boxer, however, following his impressive gold at the ASBC Championships in Bangkok and silver at the AIBA World Championships in Doha.

The Best Female Boxer award went to Thailand’s Tassamalee Thongjan, who won gold at both the ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships and the South-East Asian Games.

Kazakhstan’s Abilkhan Amankul was awarded Best Male Youth Boxer following an incredible unbeaten year in both national and international tournaments. China’s talented Chang Yuan’s gold medal at the AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships in Taipei earned her the Best Female Youth Boxer award.

The Best Junior Boxers were Philippines’ Cris Sander Laurente and India’s Mandeep Kaur Sandhu, who won the gold medal at the AIBA Women’s Junior World Boxing Championships before her 15th birthday.

Best WSB Boxer went to Kazakhstan’s Heavyweight star Vassiliy Levit, while best APB Boxer went to Berik Abdrakhmanov, AIBA Pro Boxing’s first lightweight champion. The Philippines’ Rogen Ladon was named Discovery of the Year after he took bronze in the 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships and silver in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and Coach of the Year went to Rustam Saidov, whose Uzbekistan team won a total of fifteen medals in Doha and in Bangkok.

Best Asian Referee & Judge: Mr. Vuong Trong Nghia, Vietnam

Best ASBC Event: ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships, Bangkok, Thailand
