New development opportunities for Armenian boxing։ visit of AIBA President

AIBA President Umar Kremlev paid official visit to Armenia by the first time with a purpose to meet personally boxers, coaches and other sports officials of the Armenian Boxing Federation.

First meeting was arranged with the President of the National Olympic Committee Gagik Tsarukyan. The NOC President expressed gratitude to Mr. Kremlev for coming and for support of Armenian National Federation in development of boxing.

‘Boxing Federation has new strong leadership, only in cooperation we can give to the new generation of athletes opportunities and facilities to do sport at the highest level’, Mr. Tsarukyan underlined.

Mr. Kremlev mentioned that the International Boxing Association also wants to give a new quality level to the existing cooperation. AIBA President responded positively to the proposal of organizing a major tournament in Armenia not even excluding the possibility of holding the Elite European Boxing Championships.

‘I am happy to see that big attention is paid to development of sport in Armenia. Armenia has a rich boxing history and big possibilities to host international boxing tournaments’, AIBA President said.

RA Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Karen Giloyan also received AIBA President. The meeting was attended by the President of the Boxing Federation of Armenia Hovhannes Hovsepyan.

‘I want to express gratitude to the Boxing Federation of Armenia for organizing high-level elections. The Boxing Federation of Armenia has an active and progressive leadership.  AIBA is taking active steps to strengthen the position of boxing all around the world, restore the best traditions of our sport and is open for cooperation. I have great respect for your historical country and the people who have warm attitude towards sports and active lifestyle’, Mr. Kremlev said.

Karen Giloyan highlighted the importance of close collaboration with the International Boxing Association and expressed willingness to take necessary steps in this regard.

‘Armenian boxing takes a new path of development. I guarantee the state support in this regard. We want to foster the partnership and make it more productive’, stated the ESCS Deputy Minister and confirmed his willingness of promoting the initiatives of AIBA towards the advancement of boxing.

During the visit AIBA President met with boxers and coaches, answered their questions and presented boxing equipment.

‘I always strive to have direct dialog with boxers and coaches because you are the most important people in our sport. Your country has strong traditions in boxing which have to be restored. AIBA is changing now, our main task is to protect your interest. Together we will do our sport more popular not only in Armenia, but globally’, Mr. Kremlev announced.
