With two days of competition left at the 2017 EUBC Continental Boxing Championships in Kharkiv, AIBA’s HeadsUp programme, represented by AIBA Vice President Franco Falcinelli and Ukraine Boxing Federation President Volodymyr Prodyvus, visited 50 boys and girls from local and rural Sports Schools representing the next generation of Ukrainian boxing talent. The children gathered at the training centre of the Lokomotiv Sports Palace, venue of the EUBC Championships, and were delighted to receive donations of Taishan boxing gloves, headguards and training clothes.

Peter Nesterenko, coach of the Sport School of Chuhuiv for 25 years, was in no doubt about the impact that the donation would have on the young boxers. “These young people have been fully engaged in these Championships and there are local heroes representing the National Team that are setting strong examples and they want to emulate. Wanting to be like their heroes is a great motivation. It is very difficult for many of them to afford this kind of equipment and these kind of opportunities don’t come around often, so they will be inspired and encouraged by today’s visit from HeadsUp, you can see just how much it means to them,” said Mr Nesterenko.

The EUBC Championships continue on Friday with the Semi-Finals, which can be watched live on www.iba.sport from 14.30 local time.
