Ban Ki-moon visits AIBA World Boxing Championships Stand in Gold Coast

Ban Ki-moon, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of the IOC Ethics Commission has visited the stand of the Ekaterinburg 2019 – AIBA World Boxing Championships. The South Korean who served as the UN’s top diplomat for nearly 10 years is in Gold Coast, Australia attending the SportAccord Convention. 

An official invitation was extended by Russian Boxing Federation to attend the Global Boxing Forum, which was followed by a picture with “the Bear” – mascot of the AIBA World Championships. 

AIBA Interim President Dr. Mohamed Moustahsane expressed his appreciation for the visit of Mr. Moon saying, “I hope to welcome Mr. Ban to the beautiful city of Ekaterinburg, where we will be bringing together all the key stakeholders of the boxing family. This forum will provide a platform for us to showcase the New AIBA and excellent progress that has been made and to share my vision for the Federation.”

The upcoming World Championships will be organized by the Russian Boxing Federation, who hosted both the Men’s and Women’s editions this year and also the Global Boxing Forum, which take place on June 12-17.

The slogan of the stand is «Ekaterinburg, Russia – the capital of boxing» and the AIBA Men’s World Championships will take place in Ekaterinburg from September 7-21.
