The AMBC Youth Continental Championships came to a close in Colorado Spring on Sunday following 5 days of boxing action, where the future boxers of tomorrow went into the ring for some amazing bouts underlining the incredible talents of the American continent. Five countries topped the podium with the United States claiming 11 gold medals and Brazil 4 out of the 18 at stake.

A total of 32 women and 50 men got their tickets for the Youth World Championships 2018, which will be held in Budapest, and 13 boxers also qualified to participate to the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires this year, for their first step into the Olympic World (4 women and 9 men).

On the women’s side of the draws, the home crowd was particularly cheerful when their best women boxer, Heaven Garcia, entered the ring. She was one of the six US women to reach the gold in Colorado Springs. Another expected bout also lit up the crowd as the talented Victoria Saputo met Brazil’s Rebecca Santos in the lightweight (60 kg) final. The Argentinian boxer showed that boxing runs in the family, as she toped the podium, for the happiness of his Olympian father and coach. 

On the men’s tournament, USA and Brazil stole the limelight clinching a total of nine gold medals out of ten, five and four respectively, leaving only the light flyweight (49kg) gold for an inspired Jan Paul Rivera from Puerto Rico. Names such as De Oliveira (BRA), Mederos (USA), Kaue Dos Santos (BRA) and Banks (USA) are clearly ones to follow during the upcoming Youth World Championships which are set to take place in Budapest on August 20 – 31.
