Algeria’s Kheira Sidi Yakoub, the first female five-star official from the International Boxing Association, has been presented with the Outstanding Success Award at this week’s Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Awards.

It was the seventh edition of the awards ceremony, considered to be the largest of its kind and the first to be devoted to creativity in sports. A total of 27 winners from 20 categories will now receive their awards in Dubai on January 14, 2016.

Having worked at the London 2012 Olympic Games, officiating over the women’s middleweight final, Khaira Yakoub went on to become one of only seven R&Js to receive the five-star rating. At this year’s AIBA World Championships in Qatar, Algeria’s most senior boxing referee was given the honour of being asked to deliver the oath on behalf of all R&Js at the Opening Ceremony. She has also recieved an award of World Series of Boxing (WSB) Best Referee 2015.
