Tuesday morning (20 December) saw the AIBA Executive Congress held in Montreux, Switzerland, with all 200 National Federations invited to attend as the road map for the new Olympic Cycle was delivered. Echoing the spirit of the previous day’s Extraordinary Executive Committee, the unity of the AIBA Family was embodied by all National Federations present signing their commitment to following the Code of Ethics, after Special Commission President Tom Virgets reiterated the responsibility of all present to uphold the integrity of the organisation and the sport of boxing. AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu underlined his commitment to working for all NFs, whose membership reached 201 following the approval of St Maarten, as embodied by the 2017 Year of Africa initiative, and continuing to enhance the collective and cooperative spirit among the AIBA Family.

“AIBA is here to represent all of our National Federations, and empowering them is our priority as we head towards Tokyo 2020. This has been a remarkable, at times challenging year, but I can say without question that AIBA is finishing 2016 stronger and more unified than ever, and will continue implementing reforms that will reaffirm the integrity of our sport and build towards Tokyo 2020 with far-reaching educational programmes and the ongoing HeadsUp initiative,” said President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu.
